May 3 – 18, 2014
The Magic Flute, Mozart’s final opera, is part delightful fairy tale, part profound reflection on spiritual enlightenment. As performed by Washington National Opera, it’s also a “zesty and imaginative new production” (San Francisco Chronicle) that’s perfect for the entire family. Sung in English – and featuring a colorful kaleidoscope of sets and costumes by Japanese-American artist Jun Kaneko – The Magic Flute is a magical opera experience for audiences of all ages. American director Harry Silverstein, whose production of The Marriage of Figaro wowed WNO audiences in 2010, directs an attractive young cast, many of whom are making their WNO debuts in The Magic Flute, which is conducted by Washington National Opera Music Director Philippe Auguin.
Performed in English with projected English titles.
